How to brief a Zhangjiajie day

A Zhangjiajie day is easy to under-specify. Guests often write “Avatar mountains” or “Tianmen” and leave which park zone, whether a guide rides with the car, cable vs walking limits, and airport or rail arrival blank. A coordinator then guesses — or bounces questions before a quote.

This note is a brief guide, not a package page. It shows what to put in the first WhatsApp message so we can match a private car, a tour guide, or both for a Zhangjiajie day. Two different day shapes — pick one

Zhangjiajie is not one gate. Name which shape you want, or ask for advice with your fitness and return hour.

Wulingyuan / Avatar sandstone pillars (National Forest Park area). Trails, viewpoints, and park buses inside the zone. A guide helps with pacing and which platforms are worth the climb; a car covers hotel or station ↔ park gate and waiting. We do not sell park entry, cable, or elevator combo packages — keep tickets self-held (or ask what to buy yourself).

Tianmen Mountain. Cable / cliff road approaches and a different clock from Wulingyuan. Treat it as its own daylight window unless the brief accepts a much lighter second block.

Do not hard-stack both mountains in one honest day for most groups. Two full outdoor stacks plus long cable queues usually rush flat. If you only have one day, pick the shape that matches your legs and weather, and say so.

Car + guide — not a package sell

Private car. Airport (DYG), high-speed rail station, hotel, and park-gate edges. Drivers wait; they are not guides. Narrow mountain approaches and bag moves need party size and large-bag count early.

Tour guide. Viewpoint order, queue timing, and whether stairs or glass sections fit the group. Ask for car + guide when gates are far from the hotel; ask for guide-heavy hours when you are already at the gate.

Say if anyone cannot do long stairs, high platforms, or long sits in a vehicle. Children and elders often need a shorter outdoor block — put that on the brief.

Arrival: airport or rail first

DYG (Zhangjiajie Hehua) and the park gates are not the same stop. A late landing plus a full mountain stack the same morning is a stretch. Rail arrivals need the station name as on the ticket and a clear return or overnight note. Prefer the mountain day the morning after landing when you can.

What not to stack

Tianmen + full Wulingyuan same daylight window for most parties.
Glass walk / longest cable + long trail loop when anyone in the group is unsure about heights or knees.
Same-evening long transfer to another city after a full mountain day — keep energy notes honest.

Is the driver also the guide?

No. Ask for a guide when you want pacing and commentary at the viewpoints.

Airport the same morning?

Possible only with an early landing and a lighter outdoor plan. Name DYG, flight time, and whether the mountain day can wait until the next morning.

Do we need a guide inside the park?

Helpful for first visits and families. Car-only at the gate is fine if you already know the routes.
