How to brief a multi-city private car in mainland China
Updated 2026-10-23
A multi-city week is easy to under-specify. Guests often write three city names on one line and leave the order of nights, which days bags move, and which hops should be high-speed rail instead of a hard drive blank. A coordinator then guesses, or bounces questions before a quote.
This note is a method brief, not a package page and not a group-tour sell. It shows what to put in the first WhatsApp message so we can match a private car — and a guide by segment if you need one — across more than one mainland city. No prices, named drivers, fixed scenic tickets, or combo packages appear here. Single-city car fields: book a private car in China. Circuit example: Yunnan circuit brief.
City sequence before scenery lists
Write which night you sleep where before you list attractions. “Kunming, Dali, Lijiang” without nights is not a route. “Beijing three nights, then Xi'an two, then Shanghai two” is. If tickets already fix the order, say so. If the order is open, say “open to advice” and name any must-see city so we do not invent a reverse loop.
Altitude and first-day energy matter on some routes, for example rising toward Lijiang or Lhasa. That is a pacing note for the brief, not medical advice. Keep the first hours after a big climb light unless you already know the group is fine.
Move days vs sightseeing days
Name move days separately from sightseeing days. A move day is bags, train or car, hotel areas at both ends, and an honest evening. A sightseeing day is the palace, the wall section, the park gate, the old-town walk — shapes that need daylight of their own.
Do not stack a full outer-site morning on the same daylight window as a long intercity hop unless you deliberately split hours. We would rather propose two clear blocks than sell a day that starts on the highway and ends in a ticket queue with no light left.
When high-speed rail beats a hard drive
High-speed rail is often calmer for city-to-city hops when seats exist and the stations sit in useful places — for example many Yangtze Delta links, or Kunming–Dali–Lijiang-style legs on a Yunnan week. Private car door-to-door makes sense when you want continuous luggage, elders, stops the brief names, or a station that is awkward for your hotel.
Prefer one shape per leg, or write “open to advice.” Do not ask for a car only to sit in it for a long highway day when a shorter train would leave the afternoon free. A good reply will say when rail is calmer instead of selling the longer drive. Rail pickup fields when you do take the train: train-station private-car pickup. Airport meets on fly-in days: airport private-car pickup.
Guide by segment
A driver matched for the car is not automatically a sightseeing guide. If you want commentary in a city, ask for a guide on those days and name the working language. On a multi-city week it is normal to segment: a guide in one city, a car-only move day, a guide again in the next city — or a guide plus car only on outer-site days.
Do not assume one person covers every city and every conversation. If a meeting or hospital block sits inside the week, that is an interpreter brief, not a sightseeing guide: choose a guide or interpreter.
Fields for the first WhatsApp
Copy the fields that apply. Short lines are fine.
- City sequence: which nights in which cities, as a plain list.
- Dates: first arrival through last departure.
- Move legs: for each hop — rail, private car, or “open to advice” — and the luggage count.
- Sightseeing blocks: which days are site days versus rest or move. You do not need a polished itinerary paragraph.
- Airports and stations: codes and exact station names when meets matter.
- Party size: adults, ages of children, and shorter outdoor blocks if needed.
- Language: the working language for a guide if you ask for one.
- Service by day: car only, guide only, or car plus guide — and on which days.
- Tickets: entries or train seats you already hold. We still do not sell fixed scenic or cable packages.
General message shape: brief a guide on WhatsApp. Start car briefs: private car.
Sample brief
Rewrite freely; keep the fields. A Yunnan-shaped example lives on the circuit page. This one is a shorter multi-city car ask.
Hello China On Call — multi-city private-car brief. Nights: Beijing 3 · Xi'an 2 · Shanghai 2 Dates: 2026-11-08 to 2026-11-16 Moves: open to advice Beijing to Xi'an; prefer rail Xi'an to Shanghai if seats exist Beijing: Great Wall one own day; city walk separate; land PEK day 1 bags only Xi'an: Terracotta own day; Muslim Quarter evening light Shanghai: Bund / concession walk on foot; car only for PVG departure Party: 2 adults Language: English on guide days Service: car + guide on Wall and Terracotta days; car only on move/airport days Airports/stations: land PEK; depart PVG; rail stations TBD if we take train Tickets: none held for sites — do not sell packages
That is enough to start. Circuit-length detail for Yunnan: Yunnan circuit brief.
What you get back
A coordinator replies in the same WhatsApp thread with a plan shape and a quote — whether rail or car fits each move, whether each sightseeing block is realistic, and rough timing. Nothing is confirmed until you agree. We confirm only when someone is free for those dates. The site will not show a starting price. If you prefer WeChat, scan the code on the contact page or in the footer. The thread we answer is still WhatsApp.
Questions
Do I need one car for the whole week?
Not always. Many weeks mix rail moves with city cars. Say which legs you want door-to-door and which can be train.
Can the same guide follow every city?
Sometimes. Often it is cleaner to segment by city. Name the language and which days need commentary. We say what we can match.
Should I list every attraction?
Name the must-see blocks and the move days. A long attraction dump without nights and luggage is harder to quote than a short, dated list.
We already hold train tickets. Should we still send a car brief?
Yes, if you want station-to-hotel meets or city days with a driver. Send the ticket station names with the brief.

On WhatsApp, send city nights in order, dates, move legs (rail, car, or open), which days need a guide, party size, language, and airport or station meets. A coordinator replies in the same chat with a plan shape and a quote. Prefer WeChat on some phones — the same fields apply.
