How to brief a Yunnan circuit: Kunming, Dali, and Lijiang

A Yunnan week is easy to under-specify. Guests often write “Lijiang Dali Kunming” as one line and leave the order of cities, which nights bags move, and which days are sightseeing versus transfer blank. A coordinator then guesses — or bounces questions before a quote.

This note is a brief guide, not a package page and not a group-tour sell. It shows what to put in the first WhatsApp message so we can match a private car, a tour guide, or both for a Yunnan circuit. No prices, named guides, fixed scenic tickets, or cable combo packages appear here. Send cities, dates, party size, language, and the service; a coordinator replies with a plan and a quote.

City context: Kunming guides, Dali guides, Lijiang guides. Optional north hop: Shangri-La guides. Car fields: book a private car in China.

Order of cities and altitude

The usual, calmer order is Kunming → Dali → Lijiang, then optional Shangri-La if the brief asks for it. Kunming sits lower and often absorbs the first night after a long flight. Dali sits between Cangshan and Erhai. Lijiang is higher than Dali — keep the first hours easy if you came straight up from a lower city. That is a pacing note for the brief, not medical advice.

Writing the cities in a different order is fine if you already hold tickets — just say which night you sleep where. Do not treat a late Kunming landing and a same-day hard stack of Stone Forest plus a Dali arrival as one easy day.

Move days vs sightseeing days

Name move days separately from sightseeing days. A move day is bags, train or car, hotel areas at both ends, and an honest evening. A sightseeing day is Stone Forest, Erhai light, Cangshan, Old Town walks, Jade Dragon, Baisha/Shuhe — shapes that need daylight of their own.

High-speed rail is often calmer for Kunming→Dali and Dali→Lijiang when seats exist. Private car door-to-door makes sense when you want continuous luggage, elders, or stops the brief names. Prefer one shape per leg, or write “open to advice.”

What fills an honest day in each city

These are planning shapes, not packages. We do not sell Stone Forest, Erhai, Cangshan cable, Jade Dragon entry, or scenic combo packages — ask for the day with car and/or guide; tickets stay separate (or say if you need help naming what to buy).

Kunming. Treat the Stone Forest as its own full day — not an hour stolen from a transfer. Green Lake / city walk is a light first evening. Western hills are a quieter half-day, not a free add-on under a late Stone Forest return. Airport: KMG (Changshui).

Dali. Old Town plus a light Erhai lakeside block is one calm shape. Keep Cangshan on a separate half or full day. Xizhou / Zhoucheng villages are a short-drive loop, not a walk out of the lanes — usually another morning. Airport: DLU; the rail gate sits in Xiaguan, not inside Old Town lanes.

Lijiang. Old-town lanes are for walking. Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is its own day (gate, cable choice, altitude, who stays in the valley). Baisha / Shuhe are short drives, not alley walks. Airport: LJG.

Shangri-La (optional). Higher still, and usually its own overnight — not a late bolt-on after a full Jade Dragon day. Say if it is on the route.

What you get back

A coordinator replies in the same WhatsApp thread with a plan shape and a quote — whether rail or car fits each move, whether each sightseeing block is realistic, and rough timing. Nothing is confirmed until you agree; we confirm only when someone is free for those dates.

The site does not show a “from” price, named drivers or guides, fixed scenic tickets, or Yunnan group-tour package names. Hours, city order, language, and guide yes/no change the quote. Prefer WeChat on some phones — same fields.

Questions

Is this a group tour?

No. China On Call matches private car, tour guide, and interpreter. This page does not sell fixed group itineraries or scenic combo packages.

Must we go Kunming → Dali → Lijiang?

That order is usually calmer for altitude and transfers. Other orders work if you already hold tickets — write which night you sleep where.

Can Stone Forest sit on the same day as the Dali move?

Usually not as a hard stack. Give the Stone Forest its own day, or put slack overnight before a long move.

Do you sell Jade Dragon or Erhai tickets?

No. We quote car and/or guide for the day shape. Tickets stay separate unless you ask for help naming what to buy.

Is the driver also the guide?

No. Ask for a guide when you want commentary on paths and old towns; ask for the car for airports, gates, villages, and move days.

What about Shangri-La?
